Extreme posterior shark teeth!

Recommended Posts

Hey hi Everybody!

I like the unusual teeth. And posterior teeth are some of the most unusual in any given species.

So I thought I would start a thread for posterior shark teeth of any species.

To kick it off.....

Here are some from Shark tooth hill (round mountain silt).

I think these are Carcharodon hastalis and (?) planus.

DSCF5589.thumb.JPG.68f837c3d21f06694c39779317905411.JPG

The smallest one is just under 1/8th inch wide.

So, if You have any posterior shark teeth - please post pictures here.

Thanks,

Tony

Here is one of my favorites. A Brownies beach, posterior meg. I cleaned up the beach pretty well the day I found this. I found another one about half this size and a few nice makos.

I gave it to a friend. There was an extremely high tide before I hit the beach. I found the 2 megs within acouple feet of each other. Also a few makos a few feet from the megs. All were in great condition. One of my best trips.

From Brownies Beach, Calvert Cliffs. Dave @Darktooth traded this one with me 6/2/2017 (European date), and it's the first meg tooth that was in my collection! I love how tiny it is too. Thanks again so much Dave for this great shark tooth! Oh, and was this the one you were referring to here?

WHi guys here a few posterior Megs from my Calvert collection. As you all know they quite rare. Sizes are from 3 1/4” to 3/4” Sometimes the smallest are the hardest to find here on the Chesapeake.

 Enjoy, Calvert Cliff Dweller

Here’s a few Makos, Some of them may be considered posterior teeth. If there are not posterior teeth feel free to identify for the board.

   Thanks.  Cliff Dweller

What is the size of the "mako" teeth?

3rd row, 3rd and 4th tooth look like thresher teeth.

Yes we have many Calvert gems. Most of the Makos in the other pic are in the 1 to 2” range. I only have two Paratodus B. In 45 years of collecting on the Chesapeake..

Some debate as to whether A. Grandis is just posterior C. Hastilis, though most have abandoned this position.

@Calvert Cliff Dweller I do love those Threshers and the Parotodus (which may or may not be a thresher shark or just a thresher-like otodontid)!:envy::dinothumb:

Yes I have heard there was a debate about the Alopis Grandis. That parotodus is probably the rarest tooth in mt Calvert Collection.
