TqB Posted March 6, 2018 Share Posted March 6, 2018 Specimens of corals from the Devonian limestones of Devonshire in England are hard to come by nowadays - this is one I've just bought and repolished. It's likely to be a 19th century sample from when the quarries and marble trade were flourishing - many such pieces were sold then as scientific specimens, and many more were used decoratively. I'd like to get my hands on some to cut but they're much harder to collect than Carboniferous ones in the UK - I believe most of the extant sites are SSSIs. Strangely, I have found some Devonian bits on the Yorkshire coast that must have been imported for some reason, not as good as this though.
