Itsy-bitsy fragment of Devonian trilobite?

Hi all,

In my trip to Resteigne,

I was hoping to find a trilobite. Though that didn't end up too well, I think I did find something like the "hint" of a trilobite. A tiny piece of trilo armor. But when I say tiny, I really mean TINY. It's really just a fragment. The trilobit of trilobits. :P

Location info:

Resteigne quarry, Belgium

Jemelle Formation (mostly)

Eifelian, middle Devonian; ~ 390 mya

Here are some pictures of where I think the piece is. It's the slightly darker part, the really shiny black thing in front, with the tiny little bumps. The last picture, I made it a bit wet, maybe this helps people visualize it better (it does help me).

So, is it indeed a small trilobit? I'm pretty sure it is. But I am well aware that there isn't enough of it preserved to determine a species.

Looking forward to your answers!

Max

I'm not seeing enough detail here to be confident in even submitting much of a guess. My first impression was a piece of gastropod like Platyceras. :headscratch:

Second Kane in lack of confidence. Take other images with more angles and brighter lights?

@Kane @MeargleSchmeargl I'm not sure how this can be a piece of gastropod...

The trilobit that I am referring to is this:

It doesn't cover the whole stone. When I said fragment, I wasn't kidding! :P

It is kinda hard for me to see what you mean though. The details are obscured in the shadows. :headscratch:

Hmmm, you're right, the pictures aren't great. I can probably see the thing better because I have had it in hand. I'll try to take some clearer pictures on Sunday.

Hm. If that is a single pleura (not sure if it is or just a kind of odd crease in the rock - hard to tell with this picture), that might be a challenge to identify even for a seasoned trilobite specialist. And, if I'm not mistaken, there are a few species in that formation that are somewhat similar. :headscratch:
