DatFossilBoy
Hi, I saw this trilobite online and I was wondering if it was real or fake. It looks like the usual replica of a ceratarges to me. It is from Morocco of course. What do you think? Here are some pictures. Maybe @Tidgy's Dad could help me since I know he knows a lot about these Moroccan trilobites. Appreciate it. Fitch1979
100% real to me ... but a considerable lack of prepping skills it also seems rather small, do you know the size?
DatFossilBoy
Okay thank you. The description sais: The size of the specimen is 41/2" by 33/4" by 13/8" (matrix included). That’s it... 6 minutes ago, Fitch1979 said: 100% real to me ... but a considerable lack of prepping skills it also seems rather small, do you know the size? Kane
I agree. It looks legitimate (there is a small discovery crack visible in your first image). It somewhat resembles Ceratarges armatus, but is lacking the shorter pygidial spikes between the longer ones, which may have been accidentally removed during a kind of rough prep (or is still buried in the matrix). Most species of Ceratarges I've encountered will have a small fringe of shorter spikes. 3 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Tidgy's Dad
I agree with the above. It's real enough but a very odd and not brilliant prep job. How long is the actual trilo body ? Not including spines. Mine's about an inch across and also has dodgy prepping 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
