doc_feld
I found this as a kid in an old surface mine (I was told) in the upper peninsula of Michigan near lake Gogebic. I found it in a large pile of loose sand. It looks and feels like sandstone, but maybe harder. It has what looks like a "foot" on the bottom and a hinge in back. I would appreciate any speculation on what it is. Just a funny shaped rock? Thanks. Edited March 19, 2018 by doc_feld
Miocene_Mason
I’d say some water worn sandstone or quartzite, the white being a seperate vein or bed. A rock, but a cool looking one. 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
ynot
Welcome to TFF! You are right with it being a rock. It is a piece of sandstone with a mineral vein in the center. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF. Tidgy's Dad
It looks interesting and holds childhood memories, so worth keeping. But I agree with the others. And a very warm welcome from Morocco. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
