Greg.Wood
First off, I apologize for the poor image quality... The pictures were taken quickly with my phone camera through a microscope. If anyone is interested I'll get out a proper camera later and try again. I found this while searching some Widder formation matrix collected in Arkona ontario. It is roughly 1 mm across. I am fairly certain the tooth belonged to a Xenacanth. Has anyone found these in the area before or did it migrate from somewhere else? Note: the tooth is smooth. Northern Sharks
VERY interesting!!! It certainly does look like a Xenacanthus/Orthocanthus type tooth but I've never heard of any coming from the area. That doesn't mean they aren't there, and at 1mm it would be very easy to overlook. Leonodus is one of the earliest sharks known from fossilized teeth, and they are similar to the Xenacanths (known from the late devonian-triassic). Something else to look for now. Fossildude19
Looks like it could be similar to Omalodus grabaui. Others have found them there. LINK And another LINK 2 Neat find - Congratulations. Not many can say they've found Devonian shark teeth!
