Nimravis
Today I stopped by the 2018 E.S.C.O.N.I. (Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois) Show. This is a very small show that has various vendors selling fossils, rocks and minerals, but it is always fun to attend. Besides being free, it is really a great place to promote fossils and minerals for kids. The have a whole section where kids can search for fossils and also get many other things for free. The Silent Auctions are a big draw and you can get some really cool things super cheap. In addition, they run a Live Auction and like the Silent ones, you can pick up various fossils, minerals a equipment a good prices. The fossils that were offered for sale were not really anything to write home about, but they were selling. There was also a very nice display of fossils from Bundenbach, Germany that were supplied by the Lizardo Museum. Below are some pics of the event and the Bundenbach display. Tidgy's Dad
Lovely lot of photos, I love the Bundenbach stuff, used to have a couple myself, but thought they were fake and sold them. The tully monster is nice and some of the other stuff, and those brachiopods are strangely charming. Thanks for posting, it sounds like quite a fun and positive minded local affair. Life's Good! The pyritized brachiopods are Parispirifer bownockeri from the Devonian Silica Shale of Sylvania, Ohio.
Bobby Rico
Hi Ralph did you pick up anything nice . Thanks for sharing.
caldigger
Extremely wonderful pictoral tour you just gave. Any fossils you see at shows around here are the usual Moroccan bits that are everywhere. I had never seen a full blown Tully till now. "Giant Leeches"!!! But I am sure the big question on everybody's mind is...how the heck did you get so many pictures crammed into one post?!!!

I take the pics with my phone and then I send them to my personal e-mail address and when you have to select the size of the pic, I choose Medium. I then open the e-mail that I received and either save the pics to my phone or on the computer. By saving them at this much lower size, it enables you to add a lot of pics inside the 3.95 mb restriction. If i want to have more detail for a specific fossil, I would of course pick a size that would be closet to the 3.95 mb size. BTW- The Tully is pretty complete, but missing the Proboscis.

Really nothing special- just some odds and ends from the silent / live auctions. I am waiting for the big MAPS Show coming up in 2 weeks.
Wrangellian
That Tully was for sale?? I'd hate to ask how much.. though the other fossils seemed to have reasonable price tags on them - some for lower than you generally get them for on our favorite auction site. Wish we had shows like that over here, but at the ones we have (barely the same size show, no larger, and not devoted specifically to fossils), like Doren says, we see only the usual Moroccan and Madagascan stuff. I would have come home with at least a couple things from your show, for sure.
Bobby Rico
Sounds like a plan. In the 4 and 5 photo is that a sea cucumber , I would like to get one of them at some point. Good luck at the MAPS.

But at the Live Auction an ok Tully complete (minus) the proboscis went for $200 for both halves- It did not have the detail that the pic above has. There was also a Tully (1/2 concretion) with no tail or proboscis, but did have the transverse bar with eyes that went for $80 (it was a nice looking piece). Lastly, there was a good size Tully tail (both halves) that went for $50.

Bobby if you are looking at #4 and #5 of the pics at the beginning of the post they are as follows #4 Hydroid from Mazon Creek and #5 pic has a Mazon Worm, not Sea Cucumbers.
Bobby Rico
Ok thanks that is it. I am looking on a mobile not to easy to see, sorry.
Wrangellian
Bobby, I think the Achistrum sea cucumber from Mazon tends to be more twisty than that (which seems odd for a sea cucumber but I'm no specialist), with what look like fractures all over it. (I know your mobile is not much help seeing this)

Wrangellian
They are bizarre! I would have thought they were some kind of non-segmented worm.

Peat Burns
Thanks for sharing the pics. I enjoyed seeing them. Someone is asking a "pretty penny" for the Paraspirifer. $40...?

Tidgy's Dad
$40 for one of those nice Paraspirifers? I'm quite keen on collecting brachiopods at this moment but that's bonkers! 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

My wife is the one with the backpack on holding the 3 year olds hand in the bottom left picture. I am also in this picture holding a plastic bag with a blue jacket on towards the left between the auction area and the display stands. Too bad I didn't know you were there or I would have said hi. I had posted earlier in the week wondering if any FF members were going, but no one responded. We didn't stay too long though as we had to get back to Wisco for dog training classes. We got there a little after 10 and left around 11:30. The kids usually like it, especially since they have lots of free and dirt cheap fossils for them. I too wasn't overly excited about a lot of the merchant material. A lot of it was quite overpriced for what it was I thought, at least the ammonites. There were a couple items I thought about, but I never end up dropping the big stacks of cash at these shows. I mostly just give the kids money and say go at it. My favorite is the silent auctions personally, but I only bid on a polished piece of rock this year. I have too much stuff to organize and sort through and about to go on a trip soon for more fossils and geodes so didn't want to clutter things up even more. Plus I really like to try to collect my own unless it's something from far away or that I have 0 chance of getting some day.
