Actual fossilized Pepperidge Farm gold fish

On our favorite auction site I have found a great deal for anyone who can afford it: A fossilized Pepperidge dark gold fish. According to the description it’s “probably a few million years old” and “the missing link”. This can be your for a reasonable 999.95$ but the seller is accepting offers. Seems legit  to me. Perhaps our fish experts can identify species?

LOL. Maybe something to consider if the seller throws in the 1962 quarter. :D

I'm pretty sure that this is more like an attempt to make a meme rather than intentionally scamming someone. Remember that time when someone sold a single hot cheetos for over a hundred thousand dollars because it "shaped like harambe"?

If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!

Scam? Meme? This is a late Cretaceous fish, look at this life reproduction:

This was before the “smiles back” allele developed.

Jaspericthys cherticus.

You sure the tail is heterocercal in this specimen; I put forth tentatively Cherticthys jasperticus. Of course the two genera are closely related;)

Actually, these things are more common than you might realize. Here is one that I found a while ago in some micro matrix;

Nah. Allopatric speciation. Those ones developed in seas with a significantly lower amount of food dye. :P

Does that make the group a paraphyly!?! If your not careful they could all be marked down as Otodus!

Of course the sunglasses are only speculation, we have yet to find preserved sunglasses in fossil Pepperidge Farm gold fish. :P

I agree with referring the specimen to Jasperichthys.

It is being sold from Manheim in Lancaster county PA and jasper can be found in the region.
