Biscuitatus
Hello all, I found this last summer while at Big Brook in NJ. A guy I bumped into there said it was a coprolite, but I want to be certain. Any help would be appreciated greatly.
DatFossilBoy
Hi. I for sure think it’s coprolite, I just don’t really know what it could be from, with your location. After a quick research, don’t really think its from a lobster. I am not an expert though,so don’t rely on my ideas. Hope the others will be able to help Regards. Don't see a lobster here (unless of course, this lobster met an unfortunate end in the bowels of a predator ). Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such. Carl
Sorry, Rocky. Don't think it's a coprolite. It looks way more like the common, exfoliating concretions we find there. The septarian-like cracks give it away. Get back there and find a coprolite!
Darko
It does look like a Coprolite!

Darktooth
I have collected a few from Big Brook , but they all had spiraling lines on them. ( Unfortunately I sold them so I cant post pics as examples) I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

However, Carl knows his...um...fossilized fecal matter from that area, so I defer to his expertise. 2 Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo
GeschWhat
@Carl, speaking of scroll coprolites, I've been doing a little research in old texts (1800s to early 1900's). Hammerheads and requiem sharks are extant species identified as having scroll valves. 5 Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo
non-remanié
I agree with Carl, this is not a Big Brook coprolite. 1 ---Wie Wasser schleift den Stein, wir steigen und fallen---
Plax
Have seen some really ugly Linuparis in those type concretions. If you don't mind giving it a wack you may have a poor specimen of that.
Biscuitatus
Thanks for the help, everyone! I'm a little disappointed but hopefully I'll find an actual coprolite on another hunt
