A couple of relatively nice Oxytropidoceras sp ammonites I found on a spring hunt with the Dallas Palaeontological Society to Oliver Creek in Denton County, Texas a couple of years ago.

Those are a couple of the more impressive ammonites I've seen from the D/FW area.  VERY nice!

Very nice examples. What did you coat them with?

Just a light coating of mineral oil. Not sure if that's the protocol, but that brought out the details better than any other thing I've tried, and it can be washed off easily if need be.

Nice ones!

Thank you! Honestly, the ones you get out of Oliver Creek are easily prepped. It didn't take too much to get them cleaned up and presentable.

I've never heard of using mineral oil on a fossil, but I guess as long as it doesn't weaken the fossil it might be ok. I could see it gathering a lot of dust!
