Hi guys,

I was wondering if this is a real Ankylosaurus scute/ plate?

It comes from hell creek formation, South-Dakota, Buffelo, USA

May we have better pictures? It seems like it but we definetly need better pictures to confirm it. Some close-up pictures would be very helpful.

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

Agreed need picture's of both sides and one to see lateral profile.    From this view looks pretty flat which is not typical and the lack of a keel is a red flag or is just due to poor preservation.  Size?

I'm not seeing features that I would expect to be present:  keel, asymmetrical side view, some curvature and the dorsal and ventral sides different.  I have many in my collection, even smaller ones like the one you are looking and there are no comparisons I can draw.   So its not obvious to me its one other than a very poorly preserved one seeing the encrusted surface texture.  I would pass on it and keep looking for ones that are clearly scutes.

Examples of some
