Another pair of ammos

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I posted a fossil which I found during a walk over the fields in the Wutach area. Earlier on in the day I had spent some time digging at one of the sites in the Callovian. Here are the best ones I found. First a Choffatia sp. (5cm.) and then a Macrocephalites jacquoti (6cm.)

Thanks guys. Yes, I particularly love the type of preservation in the European Middle Jurassic.

More great finds Roger. I find the inner whorl on that Macrocephalites especially exquisite. Congratulations and thanks for sharing your fossil collecting adventures with us.

These macros are just fascinating, and even though I've got quite a few of them now, I just have to keep them in the collection when they're in such good condition. One of these days I'll probably let it go, but it's so nice to stare at for the time being.

Well, it doesn't make a pair all together now since 2+2=4, but here's another pair from the same collecting day. Another Macrocephalites sp. and a less common species, Cadoceras quendtedti. They look quite similar, don't they? But if you look closely, you'll see that the diameter of the inner whorls on the Cadoceras is quite a bit wider than the Macrocephalites.
