oilshale
I don't know much about plants. What could this be? Part of a cycad? An infructescence? The fossil comes from the Upper Triassic / Lower Jurassic of Unternschreez near Bayreuth, Germany. Can someone help me with that? Thank you Thomas 1 Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).
indominus rex
Could be a fern? Not sure, let's see what the experts say. Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils.
Fossildude19
Hello Thomas, That is a beautiful fossil. It looks like a cross section of a conifer cone, to me. A quick Google search led me to this website. It mentions that conifers were among the abundant flora at Bayreuth. Perhaps Swedenborgia benkertii is a possibility? 6 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Fossildude19
Thomas, I occasionally get lucky in finding things with Google. Sometimes, blind stumbling in the dark produces results. Happy to help, Thomas. Regards, Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
