Plant, Upper Triassic / Lower Jurassic

I don't know much about plants. What could this be? Part of a cycad? An infructescence?

The fossil comes from the Upper Triassic / Lower Jurassic of Unternschreez near Bayreuth, Germany.

Can someone help me with that?
Thank you
Thomas

Could be a fern? Not sure, let's see what the experts say.

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

Hello Thomas,

That is a beautiful fossil.

It looks like a cross section of a conifer cone, to me.

A quick Google search led me to this website.

It mentions that conifers were among the abundant flora at Bayreuth.

Perhaps Swedenborgia benkertii is a possibility?

Bingo, looks very good!

Why didn't I find this?
Thanks a lot Tim

Thomas,

I occasionally get lucky in finding things with Google.

Sometimes, blind stumbling in the dark produces results. ;)

Happy to help, Thomas. :)
