Help Identifying Imprints

Littlefoot

Recommended Posts

These two imprints were found at Stratford Hall, Virginia, last July. I had a pickle of a time photographing them so the impression would show up, especially as on one of them, the imprint is pretty faint.

I was wondering if anyone could verify if these are fossils, and if so, can anyone identify just what exactly these are imprints of? Thank you for any thoughts you might have!

These look crabby - decapod-ish - arthropod-ish, to me.

Maybe @Al Dente or @Plax might have some ideas.

From the looks of those, You have pieces of concretions that contained crabs. Nice find.

Now You need to look for a whole concretion with a crab in it.

am with the others re crab concretion. In future visits I'd look for similarly shaped/colored concretions and crack them to see if they contain more complete crabs. Sometimes a bit of crab will be peaking out around an edge so you can prep at home instead of with the hammer.

Looks like you're getting really crabby today. :crab: :P

Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.
