Help two unknown fossils?

Recommended Posts

Louella D

Newbie here.  I found these two fossils in my backyard in Pahrump, Nevada.

One appears to be a crinoid, but I don't know what the other one is.  Is it even

a fossil? This is the high desert area 65 miles west of Las Vegas.

Can anyone help me please?

The left one is, I think, a concretion. What size are they?

I think, both have a geological origin. The right one looks close to Gogotte .

I never would have gogotten that!
Well Done!

Welcome to TFF!

Can You post pictures of the other sides of the items and a close up of the round thing on the reddish piece?

Thanks.

This purported gogotte looks suspiciously carved to me. I think someone had a hand in that shape.

The fossils were found on virgin land.  I can assure you they are not carved.

I will post some more photo's later.

I would not totally exclude some carving, even if the land is virgin. Are there more of this kind in your backyard or is it the only one?

There's weird rocks all over out here.  Here's one I seen the top part out of the ground.

So I dug it up.  Its 8 1/2 pounds!  What is it?  I sure appreciate your answers.  Thank-you.

I think all 3 are non biologic rock.

The patterns are caused by differential weathering. (where softer layers have eroded faster than other layers that are slightly more resistant.
