Henry T
Hello again everyone. So my question here is whether this is a fossil, or some sedimentary layering non-fossil? I found this at low tide at "Agate Beach", Bolinas, Marin County. California.
ynot
Non fossil. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." DPS Ammonite
Even though there is only a slight chance this is a fossil, the light-colored elongated tubular/elongated crystal area surrounded by brownish areas are interesting. Could be bone, worn tubes, coral, bryozoa etc. A close-up microscopic photo will help. Most likely they are phenocrysts in volcanic rock. Take it over to friends at the nearby Northern California Geological Society in Orinda: http://www.ncgeolsoc.org/ Have a geologist with a hand lens look at it. Let us know what they call it. Also let us know if the rumor is true: 2 different geologists have 3 opinions. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
