Eoraptor fossil?

indominus rex

Recommended Posts

I found these "Eoraptor" fossils for sale and I was wondering whether they are actually Eoraptor fossils. The description says it is from Argentina in Western Gondwana, I am no expert at Theropods so I can't tell what dinosaur fossil this is.

Regards, indominus rex

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

I have no clue what animal these vertabrea are from, but i do know the pictures in your post were really small so i took the liberty to get some bigger ones for the experts ;) Hope you don't mind!

I'd hazard a guess that Eoraptor fossils are very rare. Loose vertebrae can be quite hard to identify. Otherwise I dunno.

My experience with material from Argentina is that is mostly misidentified and localties given rarely match where the specimen was described.  Argentina in Western Gondwana is an internet provided locality and much to vague to give any creedence to the validity of these centrums.   Your supplier needs to be more specific with Formation and province.   Even if they came up with the correct locality I have a hard time seeing how they would identify isolated WORN centrums to a specific species.   I would ask the seller how they came up with the ID...lots of other small critters in the late triassic.  Unless he had access to a very knowledgeable theropod paleontologist.  Nice if true

Images from the SVP memoir 12 osteology of Eoraptor so you can see what the vertebrae look like.

Just FYI...note that the preservation and color of the centrum bones does not come close to the holotype.  Far from an expert but triassic bones are not typically that dark color.
