Morning everyone,

was wondering if anyone could tell if this keich is real or fake. Matrix is 6cm by 5cm and fossil outstretched is 4.7 cm. Listed as an “unbarked layer”. Location of discovery not given but of course it is shipped from China. Please advise.

Looks OK.

Skull looks a bit off, and it doesn't appear to be complete.

Bones look a bit fishy...

The matrix should normally have some white calcite lines which I don’t see here.

Don’t really know what to think.

Let’s see what the others say.

Regards

As Tim said, the skull is a bit iffy. If the price is fair, and you are ok with an incomplete specimen, then it may be fine.

The bones look fishy because it is a juvenile specimen.  ;)

The matrix is rather small, at 6x5 cm. There are plenty of plates with that small of an area without calcite veins.

No reason to really doubt it.

It looks real to me but because the skull is missing a little bit of bone. For me it will have to be at the right price. If you do buy it please post some good quality pictures on the forum as I think it is possible the small keichousaurus I seen.  :dinothumb:

I think this is a genuine specimen of baby Keichousaurus but it's quite heavily worn off perhaps due to rough grinding of the hard slab.  The skull was "masked by nodules which are sometimes found in slabs there.  Look at the photo with nodule circled in yellow.  Fossildude19 is right, calcite veins may not be present in the slabs, there are "clean" slabs without calcite veins (see the attached photos).
