Fossildude19
Another item to note is that you need to limit the amount of pictures in posts. I wouldn't put more than 5 or 6 pictures per post. Google Chrome and Opera have issues with being able to view all of the pictures when there are too many. Michael Kahler
TFF, Great tips etc. I would extremely appreciate for people to take a look at my recent post. I've been hunting for a very long time and I'm pretty baffled at what it is. Drop me some opinions/advice. Awesome forum. Glad I found this place! FlirtsWithChert
I’ve been lurking on this site for a couple of years. One of the reasons I finally decided to join is because of the respectful responses often given to ignorant newbies like myself. Some of the expert terminology is intimidating at times but it also challenges me in a healthy way. I’m a retired history teacher but a lifelong learner. This site is awesome. Thank you all for contributing your time to it.

Excellent - This makes my ability to identify items much easier if we see these angles. In addition I would also add that although cool looking obtuse angles shots should be avoided since they don't contribute to a good ID.
jpc
I will just add, and I know this has been mentioned on this thread, but if I see photos that are out of focus, I have to bite my lip to not be rude to the person who posted them; I generally don't even reply. We CANNOT identify out of focus fossils. Please follow the photo guidelines if you really want to know what you've found.

Larina
Thank you for this information. Is there a 'safe' way to get a photo of the thin part of an item if it won't stand up on its own? I'm trying to keep my hand out of the photo, and I am afraid of hurting the fossil by putting it on tape or some such thing to get it to stand up. Propping it between two items can work as well. If you are holding it, which is necessary sometimes, just steady your hand on a flat surface first. The tags section is to help anyone who has a similar item or issue in the future to look up a topic that may have helpful information to them, you can add tags like location, formation, age, type of question, etc. whatever you feel is relevant to the question or item you are posting about

I have no idea what im looking for its just kinda confusing sorry! Thank you for asking for clarification on the tags. I see a lot of new members enter tags like "what is it?" or "help", which defeats the purpose of them. Pick keywords that would be helpful for anyone wanting to search the forum for help in IDing or getting information on something. I know it's difficult to come up with these when you are new to the hobby but something as simple as "Florida", "shark tooth", and "Venice Beach" is much more helpful than "need ID". 1 Fin Lover My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.
