My favorite trilobite location

Last weekend, I decided to venture out to my favorite site to find trilobites. It is a site better visited during dry weather, but I couldn't wait! I do not know which was muddier, the truck or me when I packed it up.  Here is the location without the mud visable.DSC_0274.thumb.JPG.85ef5113d575d8466f4202c2571b56a4.JPG

This material is best approached by splitting larger slabs of matrix. The result is always a bunch of trilo-bits. This is a nicer hash plate found that day

After finding this hash plate, I cleared an area close to it and discovered this trilobite!

Nice trilo! Asaphus, correct? :trilo:

Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.

Ah. That was my first thought, but I heard that trilobites that look really similar are called Asaphus (either that or my dusty memory lane is fried).

You had the Order correct; Isotelus spp.  are asaphids. ;)

What a gorgeous one-eyed pirate of a trilobite! :)

Looks a wonderful, if rather muddy, location.

That hash plate's pretty nice, too.

I love asaphids, especially isotelus.
