That would take a lot of effort to free from the stone, I don’t think anyone will dig that guy out for a while! Dpaul7 Posted May 7, 2018 Author Share Posted May 7, 2018 Some are in sandstone.... Others are in a denser type of rock. We struck sparks with a hammer; possibly some flint about. My Geology lessons were about 44 years ago, so I am a bit rusty! I was LOOKING for nice slate rock - We did see SOME - but I don't climb as well as I used to. There were coal mines in the area.... South Fork was basically a coal mining town. If I can get someone to go along, I will walk downstreet 2 blocks and up the highway ramp..... NICE SLATE there with beautiful fossils! I THINK the first one is a leaf of some kind; will post in the ID section. Some of the fossils seem VERY well preserved; those all in huge boulders.
