Lol, really? I assumed it was a well known song for children back then.

I did a google search and found the song. It is on an album by Art Barduhn called Our Dinosaur Friends (The Early Years). Oddly enough, the pterodactyl song is the only one I remembered singing in kindergarten, yet I instantly recognized all of the songs when I started listening to them today. There is also a song about woolly mammoths which I recognized. I suppose it was this album which ignited my interest in dinosaurs at such a young age. Now, I will have to find a copy of the album for my grandson to enjoy. :)

Yes, it pays to shop around if you're looking for old issues of National Geographic (or any magazine).  Some used bookstores are practically giving them away.  I found one of those 1950's Life magazines with prehistoric mammals on the cover for $4 at a flea market.  It's a little beat-up but in good shape for its age and fragility.

Here's a view of the Life issue I have from 1959 (found a photo on the web of a copy in better shape):

Hi BLT,

I don't remember that song (found it on youtube) nor Art Barduhn but then I was in kindergarten when we were still going to the moon.

Maybe six years ago, I was flipping through channels looking for something my youngest niece could watch (she was about 4 at the time) and stopped on "Dinosaur Train" on PBS just as the show was starting with the theme going.  She started singing along and knew all the words.  I applauded when the song ended and asked her how she knew it.  Her brother used to watch the show and she is quick to pick up on songs.

I think it was 15-20 years ago that Ron Schmidtling recorded "Dino Sounds," a collection of sings for kids about various prehistoric animals.  He sold the CD at Tucson and performed (singing, playing guitar) at museums.

I hadn’t heard of “Dinosaur Train” until now. I just watched a clip online. It looks like a really cute show for children. It does have a rather catchy theme song. :)

My grandson loved to watch that show when he was young, but now at 5 years old, he would rather watch spider videos, he is fascinated with them.

Future arachnologist, perhaps? :)

I had hoped my middle son would become an entomologist, based on his childhood fascination with insects. That didn’t happen. Lol

Hi all

Mrs R picked up a nice vintage sticker book for me and a fossil set of four genuine fossil specimens form 1965 also includes a copy of the National Audubon Society book Prehistoric Life which they came with. 29 sticker sheets unused to complete the book and the letter of introduction. A very nice set with cool and inspiring Illustrations too.

@britishcanuk I think your like this.

Have a good weekend all. Bobby

They obviously had some good times back then.  Look at those smiling faces!

I think the Mosasuar just told the turtle a funny joke.

Your right the whole book is a testament “to the good old days.”

Theses mammals below  are laughing at the Dimetrodons been called Fin-backs.

Blimey!

They've used more glue on these fossils than I do for a mosasaur jaw.

Nice acquisition, Bobby. :)

Nice way of looking at it.

I showed this to Tidgy and she was terrified.

She's still under the bed.

I couldn’t talk my husband into playing (mini golf) today, but he will one of these days. I’m sure I will take a picture next to it then. Lol
