If you look at your pictures and you can edit them. You can most the time spin the photograph with the crop tool.

It is interesting how the plastic toy dinosaur reflexs the paleontology of the times the toys were  manufactured . Form early misguided views of the T.rex In the kangaroo style pose, with it’s  tail dragging to the ground . Right up to the modern interpretation of T.rex with its tail held height more like a bird pose.

Nice topic.

I played a lot with schleich dinosaurs (and animals in general) when I was younger. I played hundreds of hours with these and most of them don't even have a scratch. I was told these are all handpainted. I stopped 'collecting' these because I think the old ones, look way better than the new ones.Total.thumb.jpg.54ffefb502afee6d15eb6512084a6bb5.jpg

I just was looking though my thread and realised not everyone will know what a wonderful thing a Mold A Rama machine is . You add two dollers into the slot and the machine injection molds you a cool toy as you watch.

I love those!  I think I got a mold-o-rama space shuttle from the museum of science and industry, but unfortunately any dinos I might have had didn't survive to the present day.  Love the smell of them when they come out of the machine.

Yeah Mrs Rico and I decided they make really cool gift so we bought lots of them and gave them out as Christmas presents, when we got home. We don’t have anything this cool in the UK.

Thanks for posting the space shuttle.  That brings back fond memories of the one I got in the early 1980s.:)

Found these 2 books at a nearby new and used book store.  Prehistoric Animals by Peter Zallinger and Dinosaur Ghosts the Mystery of Coelophysis by J. Lynnett Gillette.  They were having a sale on used kids books buy 5 get 5 free...so we loaded up with plenty of books for the boys.  Looks like I will have to post the other picture in another post...

Collectible, Competitive, Compulsive!'.

Prehistoric Monsters

The original Top Trumps was launched around 1976, with eleven different packs selling at 50p each. popular with adults and children in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s, especially amongst boys and the topics tended to reflect this, they included military hardware, modes of transport and racing cars

Packs were continually manufactured until the early 1990s. The packs from this period are now collectible.

In 1999 the rights to the game were purchased by Winning Moves UK.

Topics included

Vehicles

Military Hardware

Scientific

Engineering

Wildlife

Pets

Sports

Entertainment

Comics

TV Series

Films

Themed: Horror

There is a TT's club where members can get access to exclusive special / limited edition packs, and card cases etc.

Japan, Iceland, Scotland, USA, UK, France and United Arab Emirates and Malta are  few countries that have released exclusive packs in their native languages.

Just lost a game to Mrs Rico she can read by top trumps face. :D

Hey Jess, I too purchased a couple from TG&Y. The only drug store within 10 miles.  Ours disappeared sometime in the early 70's.  As I recall they were quite expensive at that time somewhere around 30-40 cents. I think I remember earning that money doing chores for neighbors. The Dimetrodon was and always will be my favorite.

Hey Caldigger,

I was away on business when I posted about those dinosaurs.  Now, that I'm home, I see my Moschops is gray (not cream-colored).  Yeah, kids today don't understand that a dollar for a kid in the early-mid 70's was a ticket to a mountain of possibilities.  You could get a pack of baseball or football cards for 10 cents (or other cards/stickers like Wacky Packages or Odd Rods) and candy bars were 10 cents as well.  My mom bought me the Stegosaurus (I think it was red) the day I fell at school and hit my head on the hardtop.  I guess I hit pretty good because I don't recall that.  I just remember being home early and having a new dinosaur toy to play with.

I have several issues of the "Prehistoric Times," a magazine devoted to dinosaur art and collectibles.  It's a lot of fun to look through especially when killing time in a hotel on the road.  Someone once commented that there are collectors who look for an example of all those dinosaurs in all the colors.

Jess
