Am I right in saying that croc skull looks very much like Elosuchus? I wasn't aware of such a complete specimen.

Great photos too! Thanks for posting.

What an amazing museum, great exhibits and super photos.

Thanks for sharing.

I love the big fat looking trilobite and it's nice to see the brachiopods sneaking into the displays in a few places. :D

@Tidgy's Dad Really glad you like the pics, anytime!  The museum is extraordinary!  Now you understand why I spent 2 1/2 hours there  :ighappy:

I think they would have had to physically escort me off the premises come closing time. ;)

Thanks! I was going to ask if they were all from Portugal but I see some labeled that say otherwise. I guess most of it would be Portuguese?

That is a Portuguese geological survey museum. Those specimens are almost Portuguese ones and usually from old survey collections. Fossils on pictures are all are from Portugal except  those giant ammonites from Conducia (Mozambique) . That museum as also some collections from Europe classic and gone outcrops. It is very useful for paleontological Portuguese studies and it is not a “show” museum.

@ricardo thank you for the museum input for everyone

Dear Masp,

I’m glad you like it because I think it is a charming old fashion museum.
I saw you were in Lourinhã also. It is an incredible rich dino museum for it size. Did you saw the eggs nest from Paimogo? It is a large one with arround 120 eggs and still has embryos!

Thanks for the great reports,

Regards,

Ricardo

Yup, I believe you mean these? @ricardo I loved Portugal in general. Incredible culture and museums. Can’t wait to go back. My next trip maybe we can even meet. Nice to have a friend or two with the same hobbies especially internationally. Glad you liked the pics. :dinothumb:

Along the side walls of the museum you have all this cool, outdated art (for the most part) following you and classical music in the background.

I too love the old-fashioned look of this and similar museums, even the wooden floors and the outdated art (We don't really have any old-style museums that I know of here in the Far West where everything is on the new side).

Portugal does have a lot of fossil variety for such a small country - everything from trilobites to Dino's to Cenozoic stuff.
