Here are my favorite finds from today and they both are not fossils- they a concretions that contained Chalcopyrite. The picture does not do the first piece justice, but believe me, the colors are stunning. I can't believed that I used the word stunning . This is is an interesting mix of colors. I’m not sure I’ve seen those colors before. On 9/23/2018 at 7:56 PM, Nimravis said: Oh man! I love that! It’s beautuful and yes stunning. I am sure the pics don’t do either of them justice. I think I see some greens, maybe blues and purple. On 9/23/2018 at 7:56 PM, Nimravis said: This one one looks pretty cool. I like that red around the edges. Since I started this post, I believe that this third one that I have found. Could it be a Cyclus? Not sure I spelled it correctly. It looks pretty cool. Lmoat like a dandelion ready to be blown away by the breeze. On 9/12/2018 at 8:25 PM, Nimravis said: This piece I have to take a closer look at because I cannot tell what it is. KimTexan
That is a pretty nice looking piece. I like the colors and how it is open in death position. Makes it sound like I like morbid things though. 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: A classic Mazonomya mazonensis , open in the Death Position. Cool, 2 shells with one stone. 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: Here is another (2). Always cool to see 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: Essexella asherae Jellyfish- That cucumber is pretty cool. Hum, is that where cool as a cucumber came from? Naw. 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: Achistrum sp. (Sea Cucumber) with mouth- I really like this one. It is cool in several ways. It’s nicely preserved and fertile. its long and slender with the whole blade present. Also it looks like 2 separate nodules formed within one. Is there something else going on with it? Like is there another fossil present on the right? 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: Fertile Pecopteris- Lepidostrobophyllum majus- Portion- A lot of the concretions from Pit 11 contained nothing but pyrite inclusion like this. It has so much going for it. I really like it. 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: Bark- It looks more like fossilized wood. 2 hours ago, Nimravis said: That is a lot of nice stuff Ralph. Nimravis
I have not had a chance to crack anything open for the last couple days, but I was checking through containers today and I came across the fossil that hooked me into Mazon Creek Collecting. I found this fern fossil, split opened, in a mound on the road to Tipple Hii- Pit 11. I found it within the first half hour of collecting on my first visit to the Pit, I never found another fossil in that same mound ever again.
