stone encased in a rock?

My dad found this a long time ago somewhere in the Uk , he doesnt remember where, and cause you guys are awesome at this could someone identify it please

Though what you have may look like a prehistoric hamburger, it is less problematic than a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma (to borrow a phrase).

 

What you have is called a "concretion" which is formed of a purely geological process--no fossil here but a cool looking rocks. Do a google image search for the word "concretion" and you'll find more examples including cracked nodules called "septarian" which are really wild looking.

It would depend on where it was found. 

Without location info, it would be anyone's guess.  :unsure:
