digit Posted May 17, 2018 Share Posted May 17, 2018 Though what you have may look like a prehistoric hamburger, it is less problematic than a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma (to borrow a phrase). What you have is called a "concretion" which is formed of a purely geological process--no fossil here but a cool looking rocks. Do a google image search for the word "concretion" and you'll find more examples including cracked nodules called "septarian" which are really wild looking.
