Czacha
Hello! I bought fossil Miocene cone from Poland. Could you tell me if it is real fossil or fake? Kind regards, Paweł

Troodon
All I can add is it looks like a carbonized on in plate two https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.degruyter.com/downloadpdf/j/acpa.2017.57.issue-1/acpa-2017-0007/acpa-2017-0007.xml&ved=2ahUKEwix7ojymZXbAhVBVmMKHRPYBfgQFjALegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw26RPR07WROUWECcuqP7R5r
Miocene_Mason
With that kind of carbonization that thing must’ve been in the ground for a while; no way to fake that. I’d say it’s probably real. 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
piranha
Authentic. Fossil cones are from brown coal deposits. Here is another example: Picea sp. Middle Miocene - Carpathian Basin, Poland Here is an excellent paper: Kowalski, R. 2017 Miocene carpological floras of the Konin region (Central Poland). Czacha
Thank you very much for your opinions. I am attaching some more natural photos. Could you tell me if it is not possible to burn modern cone and obtain similar effect?

These cones are more or less common in the brown coal-fields so that fakes are not worth it, i suppose. Furthermore, you would be able to distinguish easily....
