What is this interesting thing?

I am a complete newbie at this.

This was found with a batch of rocks that I bought at an estate sale in Nevada, USA. I have no idea where it may have been originally found.

We took more photos but I could only attach these two. The tape measure is showing centimeters.

Welcome to The Fossil Forum, Nevadan!  It appears to me that you've got some sort of partial nautiloid there but I don't pretend to be an expert on cephalopods so I'll leave it to the experts to attempt to tell you what kind it is.

It looks like a goniatitic suture to me.

If so that would have been a pretty big goniatite.

Nice. :)

Some ceratites have similar sutures as well, maybe a better match.

@PFOOLEY might have some expertise here

Thank you, Guys!!!

I looked up goniatitic suture and goniatites. I am amazed and impressed by the images. Most of them look so smooth and gorgeous (and certainly more complete than this specimen is). Are they usually polished?

I don't suppose there's any way to guess at where it may have been found?

Hey, now I can add another photo.

Some people like them polished for display, others like them natural.

Sometimes they are naturally smooth and look polished! :)

No idea where it's from, I'm afraid.
