LiamL
I am desperately trying to find some places to collect where i live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. There is some woods near my house and the path ways are filled what i believe to be coal? Could this be an indicator that fossils are around? TqB
Yes, if you can find some spoil material. Most of the tips have been landscaped and trees planted around where I live though (NE England). Tarquin
Spongy Joe
pm sent, Liam - sorry for the delay! The easiest place I know of for you is probably Batley Brick Pit. It's not brilliant, but there is some interesting stuff, even along the footpath alongside the site. I've had arthropod cuticle scraps, for example, and some very nice little plant bits. The attached is one of the mysteries I got there... never did identify it, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I also had some utterly gorgeous preservation of Cordaites leaves, so that you can float them off from the rock as a carbonised film... must dig those out and have a proper look one day!
Tidgy's Dad
Good luck, Liam. Can't really help as i used to collect the Coal Measures in the Radstock Coalfield South West England, but it's all worth a look. Love plant fossils from the Carboniferous. Life's Good!
