Hi There,

I'm assuming you are referring to Bend, Oregon .. ? if not, ignore this post.... haha .... some may scoff at these books but I have a whole shelf of the Gem Trails books.

They make one for Oregon and it led me to a site .. for fossils at least .. that is several hours away. 3 hours from Bend ? .. it is remote unfortunately so take plenty of water. Not sure how old your kids are, the drive is long but beautiful.  Out near Delintment Lake, Oregon.  There may be others on the forum with closer sites .. better sites.  Good luck !

PS. These were the finds.

The roads inside the park are not bad ... solid gravel well manicured and at the time (this was 3 years ago) no wash outs or anything I would consider dangerous for the 2w drive vehicle I was in with my neice.  She was 10 ? at the time.

There was a stop on the way up that had gas but I would top up before you get too far ....

I believe the site is on NF41 coming in on the north route.

Cheers,

Brett

PS. It was easy enough to find , you can see it on Google Maps .. I'll see if I can't get a scan of the route marker in the book if you need and PM it over tomorrow at some point if you need it.

I use to know a site for fossil wood, but I forgot a long time ago.  As for Fossil Oregon. just go to the highschool and behind you will see where others have been digging.
