Unknown tooth/claw?

Found this in Summerville, South Carolina in a stream bed alongside a variation of sharks teeth, shark vertebrate, and other assorted bone fragments. found in sandy/rocky soil right below surface of water. Two similar fossils were found close by as well. First thought was crocodile but it doesn't seem to match, any ideas of what this might be?

Hi there .. this is a fish spine.  Depending on the position ... You will see these sometimes located just before the tail of the fish the hyplural bone.  Generally in Summerville from an extinct Oligocene era Billfish. I have collected several from that area. An uncommon find.

Thanks so much Brett! this looks like the right thing

Anytime ... someone on the Palmetto Paleontological Society on FB found a vert from a Xiphiorhynchus rotundus a giant extinct billfish species from the Late Oligocene that was 5.5 inches long and 4 inches across the face. It was a thing of beauty.

Cheers,

Brett
