What causes these holes?

I keep finding these bulky rocks with weird holes. Could it be something other than lava rock?

I see holes like this in limestone around my area. If I remember correctly, the holes can be formed in that material as water percolates through the limestone dissolving the softer material. There are often times little crystals that form in the voids. There are others here more well versed and know the geology of your area better. :D

In this case I think it is a volcanic rock and the vesicles are formed by gas bubbles in the molten rock.

If it is lava rock, there is a lot of it in Westchester, NY. I wonder if that is deposited from glaciers. It must be.
