Fossil rich matrix

Recommended Posts

Rocky Stoner

Just a post to show what this garden patch is made of.

This is a typical bucket full of chunks turned up by the plow last year.

This patch will be finally tilled this year and seeded over. (might come back later, tho)

I guess this is called mudstone as it is just a solid glob of fossils.

Here are some pics of one of the chunks before, and after splitting.

Very busy in there and quite difficult to get it to split where you want, partly due to being exposed (partially) for a year.

Working on the new plow, hope to bust up a new patch in the coming week.

Regards.

Thanks guys ! It's quite impressive under the microscope, wish I could share that view.

Mahantango is correct, I try to include that in the tags of my posts.

Thanks again.

Time to get cracking. I see evidence of several trilo"bits" peeking out at me.

Regards.

Yup. I see that. Thanks for properly tagging your posts. We may not always see that when viewing a post (often read right by the tags) but it is very helpful in making your post more visible by those doing searches on TFF in the future.

Looking forward to seeing any interesting specimens that pop out of that hash plate (especially trilobites). :trilo:

Cheers.

@Rocky Stoner I am going to organize a TFF group hunt on your property. What date would work best for you?

We'll have a large garden patch cleared when we're done. :ighappy:

Hmmmmm, been thinking of having a "Rocky's Trilobite Roundup".B) If the guests took all the fossils they found, I'd have to import some fill ! ^_^

Didn't have much time to hunt today, but did uncover 2 little trilo pieces. A one eyed Eldredgeops cephalon and possibly another small Greenops pygidium. Hard to tell on that one.

I still wonder at those eyes !

Cheers, back at it soon !

Love the greenops, and nice prep on that rana head, I know that stuff doesn’t like to split right!

This stuff is quite a phenomenal exposure. :)

Probably worth a paper on its own.

So note to self bring a truckload of aged manure and compost for a truckload of fossils.  :D
