Found in Central Ohio area. Was in an area full of slate/ shale.  Not sure if this is anything or not. Thanks for your help!

Do you see the “dot” toward the bottom? I always think that’s SOMETHING. Should I stop focusing on that??

Quite the opposite.

See if you can get a nice photo of that, it may be something, but a clearer photo will be necessary.

This one looks like there was something in these vesicles at some point, either fossils or mineral inclusions that have now eroded away leaving some iron stains in places.

I agree that this would be some form of erosion to create that pattern.

I would very much recommend getting a copy of Fossils of Ohio (Bulletin 70) by Rodney M. Feldmann. It is fairly well laid out with plenty of images and descriptions of the fossils in your state. :)

Hey Becky.

Once again the rock is out of focus while the background is in focus.

I think You need to back off of the subject just a little.

I think there is something on/in this rock, but it is out of focus which makes it real hard to tell.

Are the grayish lines raised and roundish or flat?

Can You post a picture from the side?

The other rock is as Tidgy's dad said above.  I am more inclined to think mineral.

Yes the lines are raised and mostly flat in the tops.

I am still unsure, but think there is a possibility that it is a fossil. This is one of the pieces that is best examined in hand and not by pictures.

You may want to take it to a museum or local college and show it to a paleontologist.

You know, these things have always looked real scary, even without the rest of the body.
