Another Florissant find.

This looks a bit like cedar cones to me. What would the polka dotted thing be though ?

These dots may be modern lichen of some kind. In my area, these dark 'lichen' spots are difficult to clean off specimens. It's hard to tell from photo if these might be that. I think they're too small for juniper berries.

Think it's a cup shaped egg case instead of a flower ?

I was thinking they could be the anthers. The toughness of pollen grains being a factor in the extra carbonization.

No, I don't think so.
I'm referring to the aligned dots. Are they sticking out from the matrix, or they are boreholes? I can't see clearly. Strange is that they have no continuity or imprint in the counterpart, but they look to be arranged in pairs.
