Peace River deep water everywhere

Well,  I think I am done.  I was out on Memorial day.  The water was waist to chest level. I rarely go back to back days so Wednesday the 30th  was possible.  I had an interesting morning -- see below. 6 inches up was barely hand-able... We left a little after noon.

Did find some neat fossils: This place is worth a return visit. Interesting open cavity at the end of the root. Very fragile

#s 2,3,4. I know what these are... because I have seen them previously.

I find thousands of the Asian clam ,an invasive species in the Peace River but I am hoping that @MikeRIMG_2290Shell.jpg.ea7979827c6ec721586c13607dfad969.jpg

can identify this salt water clam from an earlier age. Then a Sawfish or Shark vert which are relatively uncommon.

Finally, one I am unsure of:  I have seen those "eyes" on the inside of a turtle shell... so I think that is what this is, although the shape is odd. See this thread. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/71000-prospecting-trip/. Its all good.:dinothumb:

That's cool!  Maybe immature Carolinapecten?  Late Miocene/Early Pliocene Peace River Formation.  I have seen a few pictures of decently preserved mollusks and echiniods from the Peace River area but not much has been published on the invert fauna.

It has the shape of a shark centrum but the texture is wrong. It is from a bony fish. Tarpon have vertebrae that resemble shark centra, maybe this is from a tarpon.

Super finds!

Nice to see you still collecting up until the last moment and reaping the rewards. :)

Nice finds, Jack. Glad to see that even you have some sense to throw in the towel at some point. :P

The end of the season did come in quite a rush. I had 26 rainy days in a row in my area and I've been watching the river gauges go up in dismay--there's always next season....

Cheers.

Thanks, Mike.  For me, very rare for me to get a complete bivalve and calcified to boot. Size and calcification likely preserved this one for me:

Thanks Al Dente for the pointer.  I'll keep searching on an ID for this one..

Now it's time to put on the mask and regulator and start hunting by feel.

Exactly, until the dry season that will be all you can do. ( "you" as in, not me! )
