Runswick Bay, Yorkshire

Today i visited runswick bay. I’ve been to this beach before and it’s lovely. There is a nice big car park, toilets and a cafe for a cuppa.

These photos show the view from near the car park.

When we arrived there wasnt many people on the beach but it soon got busier and the car park was near full when we left.

Sadly i didnt find very many fossils but i did find two dacs.

We met a photographer down on the beach who didnt have much luck finding anything so we gave the bottom ammonite to give to his young son.

Another great, dry day.  Still looking for my first reptile find though.

That looks like a neat place to collect :) I still haven't got the opportunity to collect in the Jurassic marine rocks of England. I think those dactylioceratids you found are Dactylioceras commune (Sowerby, 1815). Good luck with finding marine reptile material, I'm sure you'll find some one day ;)

Thanks for the report

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...

Hi @LiamL great report. I marked your photograph if you can get to this bit your find some ammonite and belemnites. This part is harder  to get, your timing needs to be right as it is first place the tide comes in and the last place the tide goes out. Nice ammonites.

Thanks! Probably going to go here again sometime this week. Will make sure to check it out, theres alot of smelly seaweed in one area and you kind of sink in.

Going to try port mulgrave and saltwick bay also!

Nice report, Liam, and a couple of nice Dactylioceras. there.

Kind of you to donate one of them, fossil collectors seem to be such generous and thoughtful people whatever their age.

Good luck at Port Mulgrave and Saltwick Bay! :)
