Crabby Concretion, Product of Texas

Uncle Siphuncle

Recommended Posts

I felt industrious a couple weeks ago and cleaned up the fossil barn, flushing a couple unprepped Maastrichtian Dakoticancer concretions out of hiding.  I guess I went on a harvesting spree as houses dropped on the old site.  Anyway, prep started with little exposed, and except for a chunk missing out of its butt, this isn’t a bad crab, esp ventrally.  I didn’t take pics at the beginning, so this photo sequence starts somewhere in the middle. It’ll keep.

Yeah, these fast eroding nodules never preserve all appendages.  Most of my finds over the years were legless carapaces, maybe with some nubby knuckles.  Some collectors have tried to talk me out of the better specimens, but with the source pinched off, I’ve held onto my favorites.

Scotty and I were just talking about you yesterday, about crab locals being shut off and you finding some concs in Washington before a huge area was closed off.  Even heard about a guy who got caught.  Things are really changing.  so glad i started when I did.

Again, the do gooders everywhere continue to shut down what is fun and personally rewarding.  Texas is losing good sites to thirsty cities as impoundments swallow creeks and rivers.  If there is anything worth doing, do it now!  Better yet, do it yesterday.
