Wait, where were you finding fossils in Centralia? Now I'm irked because when I was there I didn't look for fossils, was too busy taking pictures. I am going to go back out there with my wife soon and would love to do some collecting while there.

Someone with more knowledge will correct or agree with the following:

#1 sphenophyllum

#2 annularia (not sure about long one on left side, but it looks like a seed head)

#3 I think is cone in cone geologic occurrence

#4 neuropteris

#5 pecopteris

#6 neuropteris

#7 annularia

Check out this post for good information.

Nice! Gasp indeed though, I’d be scared to be caught in a sinkhole. I guess that’s probably less of a problem now.

Great finds Gordon. Congratulations. With Carbondale already under your belt and now Centralia, you're certainly adding to your fine collection of Carboniferous plants. I especially love the annularia in the last picture.

Nice finds, Gordon!

Thanks for posting them.
Regards,

EDIT:

#2 - The thing on the left looks like a cone of some type, to me.

# 3 looks like Stigmaria - a lycopod root.

# 5 is my favorite. I love the definition. All nice finds though.

I’ve only been hunting twice for Carboniferous plants. Two days back to back in Oklahoma this past April. I still haven’t posted my finds.

Yep those are nice examples! Anything new happening with the fire in the coal seam and the town? Been a very long time since that started.. I know there was a documentary made but I havent seen it.

As Tim mentioned above...looks like a nice Stigmaria example in 3 and the plate in 2 is also very nice with the Lycopod leaves scattered about and the cone! Neat.

Thanks for showing us...

Did you go with the NYPS by any chance? Nice fossils! I had always heard that St. Clair was the only site with the white pyrophyllite so I was shocked to hear ( and see) Centrailia has it too
