Are these vertebrae, or some type of bone?

Hi all, I found 3 interesting things on my last day at Onslow Beach NC. They look like some sort of bones to me. One I think is a vertebrae. Of what??? I’m hoping you all can tell me. It looks like 3 is the limit on sending pics so I will have to do several posts. If there is information on posting that I should know please point me there as well. I saw something about using the “photo FAQ-page to learn about posting but couldn’t find it. Thank you in advance.

Bone 1... Vertebrae?

pix are too dark.  I can see just a black shape.  But the middle photo hints at being vertebral.

Welcome to the Fossil Forum from Texas

They do look like vertebrae.

The trick to uploading more pics at once is emailing them to yourself to reduce the size. When I hit the send button on my phone it asks how big I want the attachments to be. 3.95 mb or less is the trick.

Yes they’re a bit dark. Looks like they got sprinkled with a bit of that Folgers. :D

My very first ID post on the forum I learned vertebra is one vertebra. Vertebrae is the plural form.

I assume those are 3 pics of the same vertebra. Not 3 different vertebrae.

Thank you for the hints on sending the pictures, and for being patient with a real novice.

Yes it is the same fragment, no to the Folgers... that’s all for me. ;)

Looks similar to the small cetacean vertebrae that I find at the beach in S.C.

Onslow Beach is mixed in age but is well known for its Oligocene fossils. This vert is noteworthy for sure. Boesse needs to have a look at this one.

I agree. At first glance I said dolphin, but with the chance of it being Oligocene, I say that with hesitation.
