Good close up in focus pictures of the item on a neutral background would go a long way in helping it get identified. Using your hand for scale is not good, as we do not know the size of your hand. Giving a good measurements will help. Also pics of all sides from all angles. Please read some of the pinned topic on helping to get get your finds identified.

I'll have to repost later, I had someone take the pictures for me while I was at work. Stay tuned!

All I can think of is holdfast, possibly of a bryozoan or crinoid, but I'm probably wrong. Looking forward to good photos.

A very tiny moose head?

The photos make any ID speculative, but I'm reminded of a shark denticle.

According to @MarcoSr shark denticles are less than 1 millimeter (except bramble sharks), so this would be a ray if it is a denticle.

So, too small for a moose, too big for a shark denticle?

Actually I was thinking of bramble shark, but the photo quality doesn't justify such a specific ID.

I think it has to be an elasmobranch dermal denticle, but cannot help refine the search.

I am thinking it could be a male Raja sp.tooth. but with out good in focus CLOSE up pictures I cannot say that for sure. When I enlarge your pics they become to blurry to be sure. It would be on the large side for this, but not unprecedented.

@Sarahjane216 Also if you read the pinned topics, using U.S. coins for scale is not helping out our international members. People in France or Australia or China probably have no idea what the size of a U.S. quarter is. Taking a measurement of each dimension or at least an approximate measurement is best. And using the metric system allows all members to know the size. Remember only the U.S. and a small handful of other countries Do Not use the metric system.

I really do think your item is a male Raja sp. tooth. But good views of it from several angles could confirm or dismiss this.

Here is a picture I zoomed in on and edited so you all could see the shapes...still planning on taking better pictures with a different camera...just didn't get around to it yet.

Thanks for the new pic. Yep, definitely a denticle as Ynot and Al Dente said. My instinct was wrong, but the close up picture showed what it was.
