Sloth astragalus?

I had actually considered a juvenile proboscidean astragalus, but it didn't seem quite right compared to a couple of larger astraguli  in my collection. Sloth would be really cool! Let's see what others say.

Hmmm, Probably way off base.

Harry has an interesting response in this thread,  http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/49369-astragalus/

My initial thought was Rhino,  then I downsized to tapir, maybe peccary.  Do you have those in the Brazos? At least it gives you some more options

Thanks Jack. Maybe some of the diagnostic features have worn off of mine. I’m not quite able to see a match anywhere. I’ll try posting some more pictures in a little while and see if that helps.

Thanks fossilus, that’s a great resource. I do see similarities. I love sloth and have found several pieces of sloth around here that likely are megalonyx.

Another suggestion. Google megalonyx astragalus photos. I think you will find several photos that look like yours. Not always the best way to make an ID but might give some confidence.

This one looks definitive.
