Ted Jennen
Archimedes fossil I think found in Arkansas north of Russellville
Rockwood
Not seeing bryozoan here. Can you explain more about your thought ?
Bullsnake
@Rockwood I can kind of see features that may lead to that thought, (black circles} . But I can't verify. Steve

fifbrindacier
It's hard to see something for sure on this piece : i do see what you point but not well enough to say it is archimedes. It could also be geologic. Here are archimedes (photos from the net) : "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." Fossildude19
I would think this is another trace fossil - burrow of some sort. I see a bit of a bulb at the bottom of it that looks like a resting area. This is definitely different matrix/material than I have ever seen Archemides in . Also, I'm not seeing a definitive corkscrew shape that is present in Archimedes. This would make me lean toward trace fossil. 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Nothing about the close up view seriously dissuades me of the idea.
Ted Jennen
It was found in a layer of shale the top half broke up while splitting the layers

fifbrindacier
I see it better here, i must admit it looks like archimedes. I see failures on your rock, so it could break if you don't glue it. 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." TqB
I don't think it's Archimedes, looks more like a trace fossil, perhaps a Protovirgularia. There are various other trace fossils on the slab too. 1 Tarquin

fifbrindacier
I'll also go along with protovirgularia. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
