FunkyMonkey
Hi all, my wife found this impressive vertebra on the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze this morning. Apart from it being from a bony fish, is there any way of narrowing down the species? It is from the London Clay deposits (Ypresian / early Eocene). Miocene_Mason
Second to last picture is looking shark-y to me. If it is, not much more ID can be done because the sides are either worn or covered with matrix (I can’t really tell which from the pictures). “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
FunkyMonkey
Thanks @WhodamanHD It is pretty worn unfortunately. I would be pretty happy just to be able to distinguish between bony fish, shark or ray to be honest!
