hippyfairy
This washed up with the surf in Panama City Beach Florida 2018. I cannot find what kind of tooth this is anywhere. Its cold and hard like a tooth. Please help me identify the type and era it came from.
Fossildude19
I don't think this is a tooth, rather a tooth shaped fish bone - maybe part of a skull. Not seeing any enamel on the piece and one side has fish-like ornamentation. Cropped and brightened. hippyfairy
I'm definitely not denying you all are right, thats why I came here. However, I have saw several teeth without the enamel on them . I also started searching for tooth shaped bones of any kind and I'm having a hard time finding any.
ynot
Welcome to TFF! I agree with the fish bone fragment ID. This piece has the basic shape of a shark tooth, but is missing the other characteristics of a tooth. You will not be successful searching for "tooth shaped bone" because it is worn fragmented pieces of bone that sometimes resemble a tooth and not an actual whole bone. You are right that some (shark) teeth do not have the enamel anymore, but they will still have some features that can make it possible to say it is a tooth (but not much more). abyssunder
I also agree with fish skull element. To me, it looks like a worn Sea Robin skull. As Tony stated, your piece is very water worn, but I'd wager that it started out quite a bit like one of these: Photo taken from this post.
