Auspex Posted June 23, 2018 Share Posted June 23, 2018 It appears to be bone, as we can see the cortical (surface) and cancellous (internal) structures. Testing for the presence of collagen should determine whether it is relatively modern. You can do this by holding a flame to it: if it smells like burnt hair, it is likely no more than a few centuries old. If I interpret your pictures correctly, it resembles a skull fragment.
