Is this jaw/ tooth real?

Recommended Posts

I would say the Enchodus jaw is real enough as it stands.

The Mosasaur seems to have the teeth placed in. Look at the filler around each one.

Thanks a lot - do you think the jaw is worth 50 EUR?

Apparently we can't do appraisals here on the forum. A fossil is worth what you are prepared to pay for it.

Edit: The jaw is real. Fossil Enchodus jaws aren't particularly rare, so it's up to you.

The Mosasaur teeth may even be different species, top looks Prognathodon. One is faceted and the other isn't and the teeth have opposite curvature, which I would assume isn't accurate

Thanks a lot - I would never be able to tell the difference.

That first jaw is very nice. It's real and as the others have said, that's an Enchodus jaw. The fish isn't that rare. But most of the time material is fairly fragmentary. This jaw is in pretty good shape. It looks better than most. So if you're interested in buying an Enchodus jaw, this one is probably a good buy.

Probably stay away from that second Mosasaur jaw piece. The jaw and replacement tooth are real. But the tooth on top has been placed in. It looks like it's from different species and the big tooth is facing the wrong way. There are better specimens than this. Though if you're willing to remove that tooth on top it might still be worth it if it's priced accordingly.
