What is attached to this rock?

I have been wondering if the black things on the side of this rock could be some type of fossil? Is it a type of fossilized plant material? Thanks!

Maybe the core of tripolitic chert?

Interesting bit of pattern here. One looks a bit like a shell imprint.

@GeschWhat I didn’t notice any patterns in the rock until I started taking pictures of it. I’m going to try cleaning it better tomorrow, to see if any of the patterns become more visible, just for the fun of it.

i could be wrong but the pattern looks a bit like feeding traces of recent gastropods(feeding the green algae from the stone surface when wet conditions)

They do remind me of feeding traces I've seen on coprolites. I didn't think about them being modern traces. You may be onto something there.

You can also google grazing traces and radula(e) marks as well. There are some on a coprolite in this thread - one that looks very much like the darker marks on yours.
