Not a fossil but they're on a fossil :)

 

I thought I'd share a photo of these neat dendrites I found this evening on a steinkern of a Mississippian Paleoneilo clam from the Marshall Sandstone.

E.g. Pseudomonas and Metallogenium can precipitate Mn,but also some fungi.

The ionic radius of manganese is similar to that or iron, it can sometimes quite easily precipitate instead of an iron oxide

This MIGHT be something like desert varnish,geochemically speaking at least
